Instead of steaming straight to the Cape, aa on prerious to rages, the ship had an extra stoppage of 40 hours at St Vincent for coaling purposes. The ship's capacity, for both passengers and cargo, has been thoroughly well tested the present reyage." Of the total number of 494 pass engers nearly 100 were in the saloon, 120 in the second cabin, and 270 in the third elan and steerage. While the Orient was in Leadon she was filled with a refrigerating apparatus for the freexing and preserration of the ship's proriuona for consumption out end home. The process is known as the dry-air one, and the machinery used in generating the cold air is Bell-Coleuian's natrnt.
